Proposed Jan. 28, 2018

E74277fe235538044d6877eb20bed920
The federal government should be responsible for registering all eligible voters. It should also give each registered voter a national ID card. This proposal is explained fully in the last chapter of Prof. Richard Hasen's book, "The Voting Wars." https://yalebooks.yale.edu/book/9780300182033/voting-wars

i concur,a national voting card issued by the federal government makes good sense. The card would be issued after proper vetting of the individual ie proof of citizenship, criminal background, etc

Not clear on what people don't like about this proposal. Seems like this could even get support from Republicans, who favor voter ID. If the government is responsible for automatically registering and issuing these voter ID cards, it seems like most of the arguments against voter ID go away, don't they? Curious what the opposition's reasoning is.
