Voting is a privilege . It is not something that happens because you are a certain age. Like getting a drivers license you should have to register, show proof of your birth.

Voting is not a privilege. It’s a right.

This should never be automatic. It should be easily available, but proof of identity, residence, and citizenship should always be required. If a person can't invest a small amount of time and effort in registering to vote, what makes you think they'll bother to research candidates and issues before casting a ballot?

Please separate these two items. I absolutely think election days should be holidays.

Sure, automatically register people if you're going to require ID. Automatically registering voters without requiring proof of identification only gives more opportunity for voter fraud. The issue of making election days a holiday should be a different issue.

Making voter registration automatic upon request when applying for a driver’s license would be ideal. And, to get a driver’s license, one would have to first be registered with Selective Service. Minimal chance of being drafted nowadays, but if things really hit the fan, everyone should be registered.

There is no provision for women to register for Selective Service, so this would be discriminatory.

I think it would be difficult to track making it automatic on the 18th birthday. Making it automatic when getting a driver's license, however, would be relatively simple. With some effort, it could be automatic at 18 for people who requested such when they get a license earlier.
