Spending is speech, and therefore, protected by the First Amendment. Citizen's United is a Supreme Court decision and thus the law of the land under the Constitution's supremacy clause. And, since there have been a number of different laws passed since the early 1900's to reasonably control inappropriate influencing of elections, trying to solely rescind Citizens United without addressing all of the laws associated with campaign financing and lobbying really unbalances what has been done in the aggregate so far. As well, it will be very difficult to reverse without going back through the SCOTUS, assuming that they will re-hear the case. Rather than waste time trying to rescind Citizens United, it would be better to charter a study by a non-partisan group to address the issues surrounding elections created by influence spending, foreign national influence peddling (ie, bribery), lobbying, how the necessary condition that "We the people" are well-informed about the issues of the day (that is, fully vetting all sides of each issue, not what the Mainstream Media wants us to believe about each issue according to their agenda) before casting our votes, and so on. Finally, "We the people" - that is, citizens eligible to vote - need to be fully engaged in civic town hall discussions with our elected leaders the way Congressman Gallegly used to hold quarterly town hall meetings with his constituents to debrief them on activities in Congress and answer their questions until all questions were exhausted. I have not seen such an elected leader-constituent town hall meeting to discuss and exchange ideas on the issues facing us since Congressman Gallegly retired.

The travesty is all political candidates take money, including Brownley, whether from corporations, organizations,or individuals who want their views reflected in the politicians legislation activity

People over money? What is not to like?

I wholeheartedly agree! THIS is where congresswoman Brownley needs to focus her attention if she wants to increase voter participation and move us toward true democracy. This is also an area that I will consider when deciding whom to support for Congress.
